Mary Waren school mistress
August 25, 1793
Tonight, I don’t sleep at all. We have to make ours family decision. We really hesitate what we have to do. A lot of our neighbors and acquaintance already died. Yesterday, when I came at work, the school shut its doors. All parents don’t let theirs children leave home. Danger and fear flies everywhere. My husband, consider that stay at home safer, but I prefer to move to my brother’s house in the Maryland.
I am looking out the window… It’s terrible, more crates than yesterday, scavengers clean our street, but it still fetid terrific smell and tossed animals are across. The blazing unrelenting sun has reappear under our miserable and unlucky Philadelphia.
Certainly, people are pulling out from this formidable place. Now answer on our decision going be more obviously. We have to flee.
I am going to bundle our stuff…
