Influenza, a Terrible Illness to Avoid
Last year, I came down with flu. That was very hard to me. It started out like bad chills. Suddenly, it got much worse. That was really bad, I will never forget that because it helped me understand well people life and also let me know that’s very important to avoid it as well as possible.
This illness was resulted by a cough. It often felt like there was a shaking body, and I couldn’t do anything by myself. I felt like people who were going to fall down. I also felt like a flower that’s shacked by a big wind. I coughed and coughed almost each minute. Sometimes, I couldn’t speak clearly. My voice was like something that I couldn’t use to talk to anybody at home.
Besides of that, this coughing made me fatigued. Because of this flu, I became like someone who didn’t have eyes. I felt dizzy. Everything seemed dark. I couldn’t stand by myself even for a minute. I noticed that everything was turning with me. I felt like my head was going to move out from my body.
The last thing I had, this flu gave me a chronic fever. I felt my body was very hot. Sometimes, I felt someone who was freezing and another time, I felt like burning. So, I couldn’t keep my body’s temperature stable. I had no appetite and the only drink I could drink was nothing than water.
After that, I went to the Hospital and my Doctor listened me very carefully and told me that was a terrible Flu. He gave me some antibiotics and I took all the Doctor has given to me. Few days later, I felt fairly ok. I was coming to the Doctor and he told me that I could come back to work next week because everything was fine.
That took me a longtime to strongly recover even though I was feeling better with the antibiotic prescriptions. I felt a little bit of fatigue for at least two weeks.  Finally, I was recovered, but I take the opportunity to tell everybody that flu it’s a terrible illness to avoid because it can die many people in a little bit of time. So, be careful with it.

  1. Hi Frisly,

What a nightmare! This sounds like the worst flu ever. Why did your doctor give you antibiotics if it was a flu? Did you have some kind of bacterial infection that was caused by the flu?

You've done a really good job of describing your symptoms through different kinds of metaphors. There were two that I had questions about: "I felt like there was a shaking body" and "like something that I couldn’t use to talk to anybody at home." For the first one, you are talking about your own body, right? And can you clarify what you mean in the second one?

Also, double-check the master list of symptoms that we made and make sure that you have used them all correctly -- I know that it's a long list!

Very good job on your first essay.

Longtime ago, there were a yellow fever outbreak in Philadelphia. Many people had to flee their city in order to find somewhere else to be hidden because at this time, they were not any choice than leave this area if we wanted to stay alive for a little bit of time.
This epidemic was terrible despite I wasn’t there, but via some news paper and books that I read like ”An American Plaque” of Jim Murphy in which I could notice that, helped me understand how that had been terrified. First, I ought to tell that the Shop owners, Carpenters, councilmen, printers, lawyers, ministers, bankers and even nurses. People of every rank left to go to countryside where they could breathe the fresh air and the healthy air. Even though, some people stayed in Philadelphia because they had no place to go. They were poor.
Also, some others chose to stay because they felt responsible to their city and inhabitants.
About farmers that you were talking, I have many Haitian farmer friends. It’s always a pleasure to talk to them, because they help you learn a lot of things that you didn’t know before especially about “Agricultural Production”. That’s very interesting.
Regarding rumors, I remember two years ago, I heard a rumor telling that “Cholera epidemic in Haiti”. Many people died. Many doctors told that water and food are the principal sources of this epidemic. This disease gave several symptoms like “diarrhea, vomit, fatigue, weakness…”
According this rumor, that was the worst epidemic ever, because this disease didn’t really give time to go the hospital. That’s why I invite everybody to be careful with any kind of epidemic, because epidemic is something very difficult to find it out and to have a quick treatment. Easily, It can lead anybody to death. I always plan on protecting myself against epidemic especially yellow fever because it’s very dangerous. If we have to pay attention to their different symptoms, we will be avoided by it, so we will get a clean bill of health and also look like the picture of health…
