Essay #2

“The Evolution of Education Thanks to the Internet”

Have you ever thought how our lives could be without technology? It’s seems that it didn’t stop and it’s only get increasing every day. The advances in every area of technology are huge from one year to another. It’s an enormous help in education, investigation and researches among many other applications. Bring it all kind of information just with a click on the mouse of the computer.

When I was at school, I used to spend long hours in the library. They used to have big encyclopedias with all type of information. I studied each subject from real books. Sometime we needed to look at more than one book to find out what we need to know. It was normal to take books from the library for a couple of days to study. We also used to take books just to have something to read.

Today the education goes together with the technology. Teachers use smart-boards at classrooms. Students read books in tablets or even in cell phones. Part of the homework is complete on-line. The communication between teachers and parents is, in most cases, through e-mail. Most, if not all school have their own website where we can access all kind of information, from the homework for the next day to events to come.

The public library has also change thanks to the technology. All branches have access to computers and internet to use for their customers. We can search for books, DVD’s and all material available at the library through internet. People can make reservation of the material they need in the website and get a notification when is ready to pick up. The library sends a notification when is almost the due date to make the devolution and the person can do the renovations in the internet.

The progress in technology is a great change in everyday life. The scopes are tremendous and don’t look like it’s going to stop any time soon. We can access all kind of information from our home in a very short time with internet. Our children spend less time searching for specific topics and more time studying.  We have access to almost everything with just a click.

  1. Hi Iliana,

This is a great start! I really love your first body paragraph. In fact, I like it so much that I want you to get rid of your original introduction and make it your new introduction. Please add a few more details about how time-consuming this research process was, and then add a "main idea" sentence clarifying that this essay is about how technology has helped your daughter's education.

You can also get rid of the paragraph about public libraries -- it seems to go off-topic. Instead, write a VERY detailed description about a research project that your daughter used technology on. Then, write a paragraph beginning, "In contrast, if I'd had to do this project as a child, I would have had to..." The grammar (third conditional) will be tricky, but I will help you with it! It will mainly be "I + would have + had to + base form of verb." Good luck! And keep your excellent conclusion.
